Grow Vates, Blue Scotch Curled Kale from fresh Brassica oleracea seeds. Vates, Blue Scotch Curled is one of the more popular kales grown by home gardeners. It is sought after for its delicious, dark green-blue, crinkled leaves which are perfect for making kale chips. Kale can also be eaten raw, in salads or cooked in many different ways. This particular Kale is ready for harvest in roughly 55 to 60 days after the first sprouts appear. Stores well.
SOWING AND GROWING: Direct Seeding for bunching, sow 3–4 seeds every 15–18″, ½” deep, in rows 18–36″ apart. Thin to 1 plant per group. For baby leaf production, sow 60 seeds/ft. in a 2–4″ wide band ¼–½” deep.
HARVESTING: The outer leaves can be harvested between fifty-five and sixty days after sowing. Continuous harvesting is possible if the bud is kept intact.
